Brenda Lynette Howard, a devoted mother, cherished educator, and faithful member of St. Matthew No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church, peacefully passed away on May 30, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 11, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri, Brenda's life was marked by dedication to her faith, family, and community.
Brenda was born to Robert Edwards and Charlene Stiger. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and nurtured her spiritual journey through active participation in her church community. Initially attending New Prospect Baptist Church in Russellville, Arkansas, she later became a faithful member of St. Matthew No. 2, where she served with commitment as secretary of the choir and as an instructor for the New Membership Class. Her service extended beyond her local congregation as she fulfilled roles including Middlewestern District Instructor and Congress Secretary.
Brenda’s educational journey mirrored her passion for learning and teaching. She graduated from Morrilton High School and progressed to the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton. She further earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville. With a heart for children, Brenda worked as a teacher at Belles and Beaus Head Start Program and later with the Russellville Public School System, where she was beloved by her students and colleagues alike. Her love for arts and crafts reflected her creative spirit.
In 1992, Brenda married Mark Edward Howard, a partnership rooted in love and mutual respect. Together, they raised three children: Marcus Terrell, Tracey Rhemonda, and Keyana Shantranell Carey Barnes. Brenda was also a proud grandmother to five grandchildren: Danity, Nyla, Bexley, Elyas, and Amarie Skye, who brought joy and light to her life.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Edwards and Charlene Stiger, and her sister, Charlotte Renee Jones. She is survived by her beloved husband, Mark Edward Howard; her children, Marcus Terrell, Tracey Rhemonda, and Keyana Shantranell Carey Barnes; and her grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings Margaret Denise Stiger, Barbara Diane Garrett, and Allen Lamont (Pookie) Stiger. Extended family includes her uncle Leonard (Leslie) Wright, aunts Margaret Thrower and Mazie Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Among her close friends was Felicia Rice, who shared in many moments of Brenda’s life.
A viewing will be held on June 5, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Matthew No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1600 W. Church St., Morrilton, Arkansas 72110. The funeral service will take place the following day, June 6, 2026, beginning at 12:00 PM, also at St. Matthew No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church.
Brenda Lynette Howard’s legacy is one of faith, love, and service. She impacted the lives of many through her steadfast dedication to education, her church, and her family. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her to live with compassion and purpose. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
