Zilda K. Lucas, a cherished mother, grandmother, and devoted member of her church community, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born on April 14, 1960, in Greenville, Mississippi, Zilda led a life marked by dedication to family, faith, and compassionate care for others.
Zilda’s educational journey began at Greenville High School and continued at Mississippi Valley State, where she earned an Associate Degree and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her career was devoted to nursing rehabilitation facilities, where she applied her nurturing spirit and expertise, always prioritizing the well-being of those in her care.
A woman of strong faith, Zilda joyfully joined the Greater 3-4 Missionary Baptist Church in Little Rock. Her dedication to her church was evident through her active participation in the choir and service as an usher. Zilda was known for her loving commitment to cleaning the church every Saturday, embracing the opportunity to serve and fellowship with her church family. These moments of community and worship were among the most treasured in her life.
Beyond her professional and spiritual commitments, Zilda embraced her role as a family matriarch with immense pride and love. She was married to her beloved husband, Frederick Lucas, and together they raised five children: Joseph Sanders (Kizzy), Jennifer Pitts, Rachael Hopes (Ralph), Jamecia Ware (Eric), and Marcus Birkhead (Vanessa). Zilda’s legacy endures through her sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, for whom she held the deepest pride and affection. Her siblings, Donnye Brady, Marcia Cristal (Michael), and Allison Carr (Roderick), also survive her, carrying forward her memory.
Zilda’s parents, Willie Sanders and Lillian Sanders, her brother Barry Brady, and her daughter Alexis Celeste preceded her in death. Their memories remain a cherished part of her story.
Known for her love of cooking and spending quality time with family, Zilda infused warmth and care into all aspects of her life. Her hobby of nurturing extended beyond her kitchen into the hearts of those around her, embodying kindness and generosity.
A memorial service to honor Zilda’s life will be held on May 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Greater 3-4 Missionary Baptist Church, located at 911 W 19th St, Little Rock, AR 72206. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a remarkable woman whose legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Zilda K. Lucas’s life was a testament to the power of compassion, the strength of family bonds, and the grace of unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her.
